FOURTH QUARTER

13:49: Sorry to just get back, my good peeps, but the Tide went on what we in the biz call a "sustained drive." It was about 47 plays, somewhere around 129 yards and lasted about 18 minutes. Those are all estimates, of course. Ingram scores again. And I'll say it: If Tebow brings them back from this, I guarantee you that I'll make sure I hang around long enough to chisel "Greatest College Football Player Ever" on his tombstone. Alabama's up by 19.

11:51: Goodnight, sweet prince. Tebow just threw a pick in the end zone. Javy Arenas. That oughta wrap her up. Start booking your flights.

THIRD QUARTER

12:44: Notta lot for the Gators on the opening drive of the second half. Three and out. A yard short of a first down. Too bad.

9:53: Uh-oh. I smell salt water and easy living. Alabama 26-13. McElroy to Peek.

7:36: Things are not going smoothly for the Gators. After a quick first down, another punt. Good defense on two pass plays. Another one by Marquis Johnson. Guy's having quite a year.

SECOND QUARTER

15:00: I've got nothing to say. Just posting to get the second quarter up and going. OK, I'll say this: Tebow should get a cut from all the 15 jerseys that Florida has sold over the last four years. Judging by the number of people wearing the things here in the Dome, they must have sold 8 million of them.

13:26: How about P.J. Fitzgerald on the tackle? Who knew? Anyway, bad drive for the Tide.

11:50: And yet another QB tests Marquis Johnson and fails. Three and out for the Gators.

6:03: Tiffin just scored his 1,000,000th point. That's completely untrue, of course. But he had a lot coming in and now has six here. Alabama leads 12-3.

4:31: As you likely know already, what with the TV coverage and all, Tebow has just moved his Gators down the field very quickly. Surprisingly so. Until that drive the Florida offense was rather inept. And you know, even that drive looked a little funky. Tebow picked up a lot of yards on a scramble and that seemed to put UA back on its heels. Anyway, we're at 12-10 now.

3:51: Aight, I've had enough of this instant replay system. We've got to change this to the NFL system, where you only get a couple of challenges. If you need to review every play, you need new officials.

3:32: Ingram: I got this. Long screen pass, short TD run. 19-10, Bama.

00:00: Tebow and Cooper hooked up for a long gain. Florida got a late FG. It's 19-13 at half. If they don't score another point, my 17-13 prediction makes me look like a genius. If the second half is like the first, I look about like I normally do.

We're here

Well, hello there.

You're reading live from the Georgia Dome. We'll have a little discussion of the game here. Not too much, of course, because the SEC limits how many updates I can provide. The actual terminology used is that bloggers can't provide descriptions "approaching play-by-play."

For some reason, they obviously believe that if that is allowed to happen that reading these games will become more popular than watching them on TV or listening to them on the radio. A sound theory, as the success of newspapers more than backs up.

Anyway, I'll pass along what I can. We're about 10 minutes or so away. The teams are about to take the field.

Let's go.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FIRST QUARTER

15:00 on the game clock: This is a rather noisy venue. I'm guessing 60-40, Alabama, in terms of fans. Not as bad as I thought for Florida. This place is jam-packed, though.

15:00: We're still waiting on CBS. It's 3:12 by my watch. What are you doing?

10:37: Tide's on the board first. Leigh Tiffin (I know, I'm shocked too) from 48 yards out put an end to a pretty good opening drive for Alabama. Everything you would expect -- a catch by Julio, a drop by Julio and some power running. It doesn't appear as if Florida watched the Iron Bowl film. Or they did and it makes absolutely no difference. I would lean to the latter.

9:38: Things didn't work quite so well for the Gators and Mr. Tebow. They tried the little tight end shuffle pass on first down and it got almost nothing. Jeff Demps dropped a pass on second down. Tebow threw it away on third. Alabama has done an excellent job covering the UF wideouts on the first two pass plays. NOBODY out in a pattern was open.

6:20: Greg McElroy has come to play, ladies and gentlemen. I know it's early, but if this continues, it's gonna be a long, long day for the Gators. Honestly, the way it's looked early, this has the feel of a blowout.

5:33: Alabama gets on the board second. Ingram red zone TD run from the 7. Tide up 10- ... no, wait, let's make that 9-0. Tiffin, the dude who went right down the middle on a 48-yard field goal a few minutes back -- you might remember it from one of my earlier posts -- just missed the PAT. I don't think it's going to matter the way things are looking early here. But if does, and you cost me a trip to Hollywood, you're dead to me, Tiffin. Dead.

00:28: And Florida's in the game again. Caleb Sturgis from 48 makes it 9-3. Decent enough drive for the Gators. Tebow and McClain met a couple of times. Pretty much a draw. McClain dropped him for a loss and Tebow carried McClain for a couple of yards.
